2020 independent review of the WELS scheme

Minister for Resources, Water and Northern Australia, Keith Pitt has announced the appointment of Allen and Clarke Policy and Regulatory Specialists Ltd (Allen and Clarke) to undertake an independent review of the WELS scheme.

This will be the third statutory review of the WELS scheme, which is required every five years under the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards Act 2005.

Over the coming months Allen and Clarke will undertake the review to evaluate the current operation of the WELS scheme in consultation with a broad range of stakeholders.

As part of consultation, the reviewer will develop a public discussion paper. Opportunities to provide submissions in response to the paper will made available through an online Have Your Say on the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment’s website, later this year. Links will be provided from this website, when available.

The final review report is expected to be delivered to Minister Pitt before the end of the 2020 - 2021 financial year and will also be published on this website.
