Registrants must continue to use the current system to register and renew product registrations for the 2024 (2024-2025) renewal period.
The new product registration database is now expected to be available in 2025.
Substantial progress has been made in developing the new system. The new system will include:
- integration with the WaterMark database for plumbing products which will remove the need to upload WaterMark certificates to the WELS database
- functionality for one account (user) to manage the models and applications for many organisations through one interface
- improving the way variants are registered and listed on WELS certificates
- improving the way existing models can be changed, including removing the need to make a request to the Registration team to change some minor model information
- new system validations to assist users with submitting correct applications, which will reduce the number of returned applications
This upgrade is part of our effort to strengthen and improve the administration of the WELS scheme and is one of the priorities in the WELS Strategic Plan 2022-25.
Benefits
- improve user experience when applying for product registrations
- automate the validation of WaterMark certification for plumbing product registration and renewal
- use up to date ICT platforms that will improve data security
- streamline registration renewal and model editing processes
- make it easier for the public to search the product database
- shorten assessment timeframes
- support industry to get product to market sooner.
Timeline
We will support businesses through the transition to the new system by providing further information and training.
Industry and other users will have the opportunity to test the system and provide their feedback before it is released.
We expect to rollout the new system before product registration renewal in September 2025.
Training resources
We will develop training materials to support registrants to move to a new system and will take you through this during our online training sessions.
Recordings of these sessions will be made available on this page.
